This is how it looked when I bought it...
This is a very comfortable 6 wheel Short Bus equipped with a cold roof AC, heat from propane gas or electric, gasoline (petrol) powered generator, large roll-up canopy, refrigerator, microwave, SS sink with fresh and gray water storage, queen size bed, 24" flat screen TV with a roof antenna, JVC sound system, computer-table, porta-potty, storage areas and standing room for me inside. A super platform to remodel to my own taste and still go camping at the same time. It is powered by a Ford 351-C big block engine, 650 Holley double pumper, C6 3-Speed automatic transmission, Dana 70 rear and dual exhaust system. Soon it will have installed a cruise control, under-dash AC and I will be working towards improved gas mileage from better highway gearing. Also a JVC sound system and a flatscreen TV .
Not exactly set up the way I like, demolition & reconstruction has begun...
Not able to build vans like I use to, my friend and mechanic Russ Seymour has taken on the task of putting my thoughts and ideas into this build. First on the agenda a full inspection and tune-up of the 351C. With a very long todo list from me, Russ stripped out the entire contents except for the front and rear walls. Next was to add additional insulation and tongue & groove wood walls. With the walls just about complete, new wood flooring was laid down. During the process 2 double receptacle electrical wall outlets with 2 USB charging ports were wired in. One side for generator/shore powered AC and the other side for a 12v battery inverter. Also during this process other features added were a Rostra #250-1233 Universal Cruise Control with a #3592 lighted dash switch.
Still under construction, this is where it has evolved so far...
My 2 goals for this build are interior portability and comfort. So far, one of my favorite mods is a indoor/outdoor food center. I wanted to be able to use the microwave, refrigerator and TV outside as well as the inside.. Russ mounted these units on the large side door so not only can I use these inside and out, but with the doorway open, also allows for movement of large bulky items that would be hard to maneuver up the stairs. Next Also installed were a New BlueTop deep cell battery, new heavy duty curtain rods, new blackout turquoise window and doorway curtains, new gray futon sofa bed with cup holder armrest, new modern area rug with padding, contemporary matching pillows and a black wire shelving unit. To dress up the outside and cover the ghosting effect of the previous lettering I used mirror background film, light reflective pinstriping and day-night custom decals with the vans name "VAN CAVE" and Captain caveman decals. I also put on an outdoor 30 LED Solar powered PIR motion sensing light.
